My fellow Marines and Associates:
I hope this newsletter finds each of you doing well. Spring is in the air and our League has many, many ventures ahead of us.
Thank you to all whom attended our Saturday meeting last month. It was great to see our Past Commandant Charles Pugh and Chaplain J.T. Pardue. Please keep the following members in your thoughts and prayers: Jeremiah Hampton, Heath Edwards, Sam Shore, Zane Fisher, Betty Benes, Walter Bell, Bill Sebastian and Charles Pugh. We also would like to welcome our newest associate member Kimberly Kluttz who was sworn in last meeting. My heartfelt thanks goes out to each of you for all you do! A special thank you to Frances Buckle who types and mails our newsletters!
I have a few reminders I need to pass along:
• It is very important that you renew your membership on time. We need to be current to keep in compliance with the State. We have a couple of members that are behind and need to catch up. If you have any doubt please contact Brenda Irwin at 336-372-7009.
• Second, ALL MARINES must send a copy of your DD214 to the League as we must keep it on file. When we recruit a new member we must first secure that DD214 to make sure all is good. So if you haven’t already, please bring it or mail it to the League ASAP! This does not affect associate members.
• Next, we need biographies of each member for the website. Just some basic information will do; years you served, MOS, awards, places you have been and maybe a paragraph or two about your Marine Corps experience. Our website is awesome so let’s take full advantage of it.
• In April we will be taking a trip to see one of our members on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
• On May 14, 2011, we will once again be presenting colors for the AMRA Lawnmower races at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds.
• Please bring a few items to put into a care box for our two members currently serving in Afghanistan. We want them to know we are thinking of them. Remember, Marines take care of Marines!
• On June 18, 2011, we will be doing a parking detail for Frances Huber. Bobby Irwin will be getting all the information for us and we will need some volunteers.
We may have a couple more events coming up so I will keep everyone posted. I have sent letters to the County Commissioners, Town Council, and all the school officials requesting them to inform of us of events in which we might participate. This is in an effort to make the community aware of who we are and let them know we are here to help. Don’t forget to look at the calendar of events and check out the website at www.MCLSparta.com.
